A NEW BEGINNING

David chose a life in the military and served twenty two years in The 1st Battalion, The Royal Welsh Fusiliers, the oldest and proudest infantry battalion in Wales. He served with honour and distinction in many different countries around
the world.

After his return from war-torn Bosnia and while
training other soldiers, David was involved in a
military accident which resulted in severe injuries.
As a result of the accident he was unable to
continue with his military career.

Following treatment at Frenchey hospital David
spent the two and a half years in the care of the
military rehabilitation centre in Epsom, Surrey.
There he was to learn many new skills to cope
with the rest of his life.

It was at the centre that David made a bird table,
which he still has in his garden today. He saw a
colleague make a pen on a woodturning lathe and, although he was advised not to use the lathe because of his partial sight and lack of hand to eye coordination, David’s determination took over.
He worked in the gym to overcome his coordination problems and was finally allowed to use the lathe. From that point on he has never looked back.

He furthered his skills in the art of woodturning at
Studio Foncerio in West Wales.
